Th e Republicans
Declare the Playing
Field
The "Born-Again
Republicans :
John McCain, in keeping with the George
Bush election methodology, has declared the Republicans to
be the political version of the religious concept
called 'Born-Again." McCain renounced
the sins of the republican party and came out as saved man
and a former, long-suffering sinner -- a saved sinner
who intended to return to the pit of darkness and fight to
save everyone form the evils of Washington.
The core of the Republican party
is made up of conservative
Christians. They love this kind of
jargon. They feel right at home.
Not only that, there is an important,
emotionally soothing, underlying belief-component to his
technique which makes this idea so important the political
manipulators and so palatable to the fundamental
Christians: When one is "born
again," all past sins and transgressions are
forgiven.
As a result, when John McCain announced
himself in the presidential campaign as a
"reformer," he, came in clean, relieved of
all his past actions and his association with George Bush
and the other Republican "sinners." This may sound silly and
unimportant, even simplistic, until you realize the people
do not vote with their minds. They vote with
their emotions and then make up a reason to justify their
actions.
You might also note the the Republicans
are masters of political theater. For example,
at the Republican convention, on the night that Sarah Palin
gave her speech, her husband showed up with a two-day growth
of facial hair, just like the macho males do in the
advertising industry. During that evening the
camera repeatedly focused on pregnant daughter holding the
latest Palin baby.
During the convention, all the speakers
spoke from the stage a few feet in front of the screen
behind them. When John McCain spoke, he stood at
the head of a long, phallic-symbol runway the extended
out from
the stage deep into the middle of the
audience. Do you think any of this was coincidental?
It was all political theater aimed at eliciting
emotions.
At the
Republican convention, the leaders of the
Republican party clearly indicated where they
intend to focus their attention.
1) They went
to great lengths to distance
themselves from the Republican party. They
claimed themselves to be reformers.
2)
They want the focus of attention to be on personalities.
This
approach is designed to take attention away from what
the Republicans have been doing for the past
eight years.
The
republicans refer to themselves as the party of Abraham
Lincoln. How can the claim to be a kin of
President Lincoln who died 143 years ago (1865) and at the
same time, be separate from George Bush who is the 2008,
alive, in-the-Whitehouse leader of their own,
present-day, political establishment?
It would seem that the logical, political response is to do the
exact opposite. Here are four playing fields to
consider:
Some
people will call the four responses offered below to be dirty campaigning. One
needs to consider
this:
In a political campaign, who sets the
ethical level?
The side
with the lowest ethical standards!
If your opponent is using negative campaigning and
you're not, you lose. John
McCain proved that in the 2000 Presidential campaign.
Karl Rove
and Newt Gingrich, and the others of like character have
not gone away. They are merely out of site.
Karl Rove and Newt Gingrich were both at the Republican convention.
1) Who and what are the Republicans:
Continue to link McCain to the
Republican establishment. Ask who is
going to do all this reforming?
2)
Compare the Two Sides --
Republicans and Democrats.
Stop the focus on
personalities. Focus on the two
teams, Republicans and Democrats. Describe
how they differ.
3) Who is Ready to be President:
McCain was ready and able to be President eight years ago,
but he no longer is. He's too old. Are the Candidates Ready to
Be President ²
---
This is a two sided question: Is
Barack Obama ready to be President?
Is John McCain ready to be President?
4) Secret Republican Taxation
Focus on the 480 Billion in secret taxes: The Taxation Lie -- Exposed ² --- Either John McCain doesn't
understand basic economics or he's
lying to us about taxation. Either
way, he's unfit to be the President of
the Unites States.
